Could of fooled me since they compete at the DI in all sports

including football. The FCS is a DI subdivision and technically the only subdivision that can have its champion crowned NCAA champion. NCAA bylaws limits the NCAA to only recognize 1 champion per sport per division level. Hence why the DI-FCS champion gets a NCAA trophy and the DI-FBS champion(s) gets some other trophy (or trophies during the pre-BCA era).
